Thunderbird Version 2
- From the Tools menu, select Account Settings. The Account Settings dialog box opens.
- Click Add Account. The Account Wizard opens.
- Select Email account and click Next or Continue, depending upon your operating system.
- In the Identity screen, complete the following fields:
- Your Name: Type your name as you’d like it to appear in email (for example, “John Smith”).
- Email Address: Type your full Yahoo! Mail Plus email address (for example, “testing80@yahoo.com”)
- In the Server Information screen:
- Under Select the type of incoming server you are using, select POP.
- For Incoming Server, type plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com.
- If you want to leave your mail on the server after you have downloaded it, deselect theUse Global Inbox (store mail in Local Folders) checkbox. To merge your Yahoo! Mail on your computer with mail from other accounts, select this checkbox.
- If you already have an SMTP server configured, Thunderbird will use it automatically Otherwise, for Outgoing Server, type plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
- In the User Names screen:
- Make sure the Incoming User Name is your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
- If you don’t already have an SMTP server configured, make the Outgoing User Nameis your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
- In the Account Name screen, either use the existing text or give your Yahoo! Mail Plus account a name that will appear as your Yahoo! Mail Plus account in Thunderbird. Click Nextor Continue, depending upon your operating system.
- The Congratulations screen appears. Check your settings to make sure they’re correct, then click Finish to save the account and exit the Account Wizard.
- In the left column of the Account Settings dialog box, scroll down to the bottom and selectOutgoing Server (SMTP). In the right half of the pane, select the Yahoo! Mail SMTP server. Click Edit. The SMTP Server dialog box appears.
- In the SMTP Server dialog box, under Security and Authentication:
- Click OK to save your changes.

- From the File menu, select File then New.
- Select Mail Account. The Mail Account Setup window will open
- Fill in your account details as follows:
- Your Name: Type your name as you'd like it to appear in email (for example, John Smith).
- Email address: Type your full Yahoo! Mail Plus email address (for example, testing80@yahoo.com)
- Password: Enter your account password.
- Thunderbird will display settings for your account. Click Manual Setup.
- On the Server Settings page:
- Change the Server Name to "pop.mail.yahoo.com" or "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com" (depending on your account type).
- If you want to leave your mail on the server after you have downloaded it, deselect theUse Global Inbox (store mail in Local Folders) checkbox. To merge your Yahoo! Mail on your computer with mail from other accounts, select this checkbox.
- Make sure the Incoming User Name is your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
- In the left column of the Account Settings dialog box, scroll down to the bottom and selectOutgoing Server (SMTP). In the right half of the pane, select the Yahoo! Mail SMTP server. Click Edit. The SMTP Server dialog box appears:
- Change the Server Name to "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" or "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" (depending on your account type).
- Select the User name and password checkbox.
- Make sure the User Name is your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
- Under "Use secure connection," select SSL/TLS. The Port value should be 465.
- Click OK to save and close, then OK again to close the Account Settings window
